The Relationships of TOEFL and Management
TOEFL formerly known as Test Of English as a Foreign Language, is a test of an individual's ability to use and understand American English in an academic setting designed and administered by Educational Testing Service (ETS) and TOEFL is a registered trademark of ETS. It was developed to address the problem of ensuring English language proficiency for non-native speakers wishing to study at U.S. universities. It has become an admission requirement for non-native English speakers at many English-speaking colleges and universities. Additionally, institutions such as government agencies, licensing bodies, businesses, or scholarship programs may require this test. A TOEFL score is valid for two years and then will no longer be officially reported.
TOEFL iBT test scores are interpreted as the ability of the test taker to use and understand English as it is spoken, written, and heard in college and university settings. The proposed uses of TOEFL iBT test scores are to aid in admissions and placement decisions at English-medium institutions of higher education and to support English-language instruction.
The primary use of the TOEFL test is to make decisions about students’ readiness to study at English-medium educational institutions. From this perspective, positive consequences would involve granting admission to students who have the English language proficiency necessary to succeed at the institution, and denying admission to those who do not. Negative consequences would involve granting admission to students who do not have the English language proficiency necessary to succeed at the institution, and denying admission to those who do. These latter consequences are viewed as negative because, on the one hand, they waste institutional and student resources and misinform expectations, or, on the other hand, they deny opportunity to qualified students. Using test scores appropriately to make decisions with positive consequences is the joint responsibility of the test user and the test publisher.
To support appropriate use of TOEFL iBT scores, ETS has provided score users with descriptive information to help them to interpret test scores (ETS, 2004c), guidance on how to set standards for using scores at their institution for admissions purposes (ETS, 2005), and an empirical study, described above, on the effectiveness of speaking scores in making decisions about ITAs (Xi, 2008).
While the relationship between majors managment the TOEFL in my opinion is to have a good TOEFL skills that a manager will be much more efektive in carrying out its functions as set up, manage, control, etc.. This function is of course requires a manager or part manejemen to have a good toefl skills as a means of communication for a manager must not only deal with the internal organization but also the organization to carry out and perform the function of management.
Not only that, for students majoring in management TOEFL is also a very important thing to remember in this era of globalization, companies need more workers or employees who have a good TOEFL skills so that the students are required to have a TOEFL or improve their ability not only to get a job but also for those who want to continue their study overseas TOEFL skills were very good also absolutely necessary.
In management science is often discussed international economy where knowledge is often presented using the international language of English so good TOEFL skills will be very helpful in the study of international economic environment. In the corporate world a manager's ability to communicate is essential Olehkarena that if managers have a good TOEFL skills then he will help companies achieve their goals.
The relationship between TOEFL iBT scores and academic placement at colleges and universities also provides evidence that the test scores are related to other indicators of academic language proficiency. In many English-medium colleges and universities, some international students are judged to have sufficient Englishlanguage skills to take content courses without needing additional English-language instruction.
